Laos’ martial artists hopeful of medals at SEA Games
Laos’ martial arts teams are still in with a chance to win medals at the SEA Games, which are taking place in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Contestants in various disciplines are currently competing in vovinam, judo, wrestling, karatedo and other events.
Lao contestants competed in 12 sports on Thursday, all with a medal in mind.
The 12 sports comprised badminton, gymnastics, petanque, judo, sepak takraw, wrestling, karatedo, vovinam, snooker, e-sports, cycling and tennis.
In the judo dance competition on Wednesday, Lao contestants won a silver medal in the women’s doubles of katame no kata (dance) and a bronze medal in the men’s doubles of kodokan goshin (dance).
The judo events comprise kata (dance), five men’s fighting events, five women’s fighting events and mixed team fighting events from May 18-19, attended by judo teams from eight countries divided in two groups.
Four men and two women from Laos competed in the fighting events, while two men and two women competed in the dance events.
In total, 24 teams from Laos are taking part in the SEA Games, with the medalists being very happy with their success.
Other athletes were satisfied with their results after putting up a strong performance, despite not winning medals.
As of Wednesday, Laos was in 10th place with three silver and 19 bronze medals.
At the previous edition of the games held in the Philippines in 2019, Laos won a gold medal in kickboxing.
