Football referees gear up for Lao League 2022
Some 42 referees belonging to the Lao Football Federation (LFF) and employed by other groups and provinces are undergoing training so they can take part in the Lao Premier League 2022 this month.
Some of the referees are experienced while some are new to the game. They are getting to grips with the rules and how to referee a match in practice.
After finishing the four-day course, they will put their knowledge and skills to use in League 2022 matches.
The referees are being trained by the LFF, which will assign six referees to adjudicate each match.
The Federation holds training courses for both new and experienced referees every year so they are able to referee league level games and future large football events.
Referees from the provinces will also develop their skills so they can officiate at provincial football competitions.
The Federation has been very supportive of referees, some of whom have taken courses in other countries and officiated at international level matches.
Clubs participating in the Lao Premier League 2022 comprise Young Elephants FC, Army, Vientiane, Ezra, Master Seven, Luang Prabang and Champassak province.
Last year the Pepsi Lao Premier League was postponed from April because of the Covid-19 outbreak but will now take place this month.
However, the League One series will not take place this year. Toyota FC were champions several years ago and the club was able to help develop young footballers so they reached the dizzy heights of playing for the national team.
The League 2021 comprised five clubs, including Chanthaboury (Lao Toyota FC), Young Elephants, Ezra, Vientiane and the Army FC. In the first leg, Young Elephants topped the tables with two wins.
