Athletics federation supports Lao contestants ahead of international meets

President of the Lao Athletics Federation, Dr Xayxana Thongkhamchan, and his officials recently met with athletes during training at the Lao National Sports Training Centre in preparation for competition at international events this year.
These events comprise the South-East Asian (SEA) Games taking place in Vietnam next month, and the World Championship and Asean University Games.
Federation officials advised athletes to do more training to improve their skills, with coaching to come from former national-level athletes.
The advice came as Lao athletes hope to add to their collection of medals earned on the international stage this year.
Two male and two female runners will compete at the SEA Games in Vietnam.
The Lao Athletics Federation is working with the Asian Athletics Association to discuss ways to improve the standard of athletics in Laos.
The association plans to improve the organisational structure of Laos’ athletics so that management aligns with the standards of the Asian Athletics Association and the World Athletics Federation.
Lao runners have competed at numerous international events in the past and in 2019 picked up three bronze medals at the SEA Games in the Philippines.
