A special publicity committee has been set up to cover the Games and make sure that the public is kept informed of events surrounding the Games.
The committee met on September 17 to discuss coordination in publicity efforts, to ensure that news around the Games and ongoing events is delivered in a timely fashion and reaches the intended audience. The meeting was attended by the committee representative from Xieng Khuang province, Mrs Phuangphachan Mounthavong, officials from the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, and media personnel.
The committee will review its planned activities with the aim of ensuring that the Games get the publicity they deserve, having been postponed since 2018. There is still public concern surrounding the Games in light of its postponement three times previously.
However, the promotion committee is determined to build public confidence in the Games and banish scepticism, while building support for the event and polishing the image of Xieng Khuang province as a successful host.
The committee will improve infrastructure and the media centre and will oversee the work of media teams from around Laos and other countries reporting on the Games. Vehicles, internet connection and other essential equipment will be installed at the media centre to enable televised broadcasts of every sporting event.
Athletes will compete in 25 sports, with 18 being played in indoor venues and seven taking place in the main stadium and other outdoor sports grounds.
Some 460 officials are involved in the organisation of the Games.
Athletes will represent their home provinces and Vientiane.
The 12th National Games will be hosted by Vientiane at a future date, while the 10th National Games took place in Oudomxay province in 2014.
