The Lao judo team won a bronze medal at the Thailand International Judo Championship 2022 in Chiang Rai province on Saturday.
The medal was won by Khamsy Khounnivath in the men’s -66kg division, while three other contestants were awarded lower rankings.
Soulixay Xayasane competed in the men’s -90kg event.
The Lao Judo Federation sent three male competitors in the -55, -66 and -90kg weight categories, and two female fighters in the -52 and -57kg categories, all trained by Kasuki Kon.
Lao referee Mr Chittivet Nouankhaisy assisted in the judging of the bouts, which took place from September 23-25.
The Lao judo team will now continue training in preparation for the National Games in Xieng Khuang province at the end of this year.
This will be followed by further rigorous training ahead of the South-East Asian (SEA) Games in Cambodia in May next year.
The Lao judo team won two silver and two bronze medals at the last SEA Games, which took place in Vietnam in May, and will be hoping to boost their medal haul at the next edition of the games.
