Lao students win medals at Asean University Games
Laos’ student sports team on August 2 won a gold, three silver and 12 bronze medals at the 20th Asean University Games held in Udon Ratchathani province, Thailand.
The gold medal came from Feng Vongphakdy and Vanxay Bounnavong, who won the pencak silat men’s doubles event on Tuesday with 569 points.
Malaysia took the silver medal with 563 points, while host Thailand won the bronze medal.
The Lao team will continue to compete in other events at the Games from August 2-6.
A total of 23 sports are on the Games’ programme, which runs from July 26 to August 6 with the participation of teams from 11 countries.
A lineup of more than 200 students and officials from Laos are attending the Games and competing in track and field, petanque, muay, taekwondo, karatedo, pencak silat, men’s football, sepak takraw, beach volleyball, badminton, table tennis and e-sports events.
Laos hosted the 16th Asean University Games in Vientiane in 2012, which was attended by teams from eight countries.
