Federation to host Mayor of Vientiane’s Muaylao Cup
The Vientiane Muaylao Federation will host the Mayor of Vientiane’s Cup for muaylao fighters at the end of July.
The event will take place at the indoor ring at the Vientiane Education and Sports Department and is open to contestants in the 51kg, 55kg and 57kg weight divisions.
It is expected that martial artists from clubs in Vientiane will vie for honours and selection for the team that will represent the city at the 11th National Games in Xieng Khuang province in December.
After selecting a team of fighters, the federation will hold more muaylao contests to hone and test their kickboxing skills. The chosen team will then undergo rigorous training in the run up to the National Games.
For more than two years, the federation has been unable to stage muaylao contests in Vientiane because of the Covid-19 outbreak.
This year, however, the federation will arrange muaylao events for a younger generation of kickboxers from clubs in Vientiane, the provinces, and Thailand.
In the past, the federation organised regular muaylao bouts which were popular with audiences and attracted competitors from around Laos as well as from Thailand.
The federation looks forward to holding both boxing and muaylao contests, and will select talented boxers to take to the ring at the National Games.
