Lodkeo to compete in marathons ahead of 2023 SEA Games
Laos’ top female runner, Lodkeo Inthakoumman, will be a frequent competitor in races in Laos and neighbouring countries this year and next as she builds up towards the pinnacle of the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia next May.
This month she will compete in a half marathon in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone in Bokeo province, to mark International Day against Drug Abuse.
Lodkeo placed fourth in the women’s 1,500 metres at the 31st edition of the SEA Games in Vietnam last month.
She will also represent Vientiane province in the women’s 800 and 1,500 metre events at the National Games taking place in Xieng Khuang province at the end of this year, where she has high hopes of winning at least one gold medal.
She was unable to compete in mini-marathons in Thailand last year because of the Covid-19 outbreak, so she is looking forward to striding out and setting a good pace when these races are rescheduled.
She will also have other opportunities to compete at events in Thailand this year and will build her fitness and endurance levels so that she is a strong competitor.
On Sunday, Lodkeo won a gold medal and a cash prize in the women’s 21km event of the Nakhon Phanom-Khammuan Marathon Season 4, which took place across the Lao-Thai border.
The event comprised 5, 10, 21 and 42-km races, in which 7,000 runners from Laos and Thailand took part, with 1,574 runners competing in the women’s 21-km race.
