Meuanghat triumph in Laos’ football League 2
Meuanghat United have triumphed in the Vientiane League 2 after beating HBT 941 Football Club 2-1 in the final at Chao Anouvong stadium in extra time on Saturday.
The winning goal came 30 minutes into extra time, after the full-time score was a draw at 1-1.
This was Meuanghat United’s first taste of the championship in League 2.
The team won a cup, a gold medal and 30 million kip, present by the tournament organising committee.
Heuanghat United’s striker won the top scorer accolade after putting 15 goals into the net, while coach Ketsama Keoduangdeth was also recognised for his efforts, with both men receiving a cup and a cash prize.
The cup presentation ceremony on Saturday was attended by the Vice Mayor of Vientiane, Mr Phouvong Vongkhamxao, President of the Vientiane Football Federation Mr Detsongkham Thammavong, and footballing officials.
Ten teams took part in the League 2 championship this year. Each team played all the other teams, with those coming first and second facing off in the final.
The tournament was played out over 10 weeks.
HBT 941 Football Club took second place and received a silver medal and 20 million kip, while Athit Luanglath won a cup and a cash prize for sporting behaviour on the pitch.
The tournament was sponsored by Lao Toyota Service Company with 250 million kip, while the Lao Football Federation provided 80 million kip and various companies also contributed to the cost of the event.
The Vientiane Football Federation will now prepare the best footballers to represent the city at the National Games to be hosted by Xieng Khuang province in December.
The Federation will also work towards the League 2 championship next year.
