Photo contest promotes preservation of Lao textiles

A photo contest to be held later this year will promote the preservation of Lao textiles, and the winner will receive the Khang Prize for Textile Art.

The photo contest with the theme “Naga pattern in Lao textiles” is being organised by the Khang fashion brand to give a chance to amateur and professional photographers to win prizes.
Photographers interested in the contest can submit one to five photos of Naga patterns in Lao textiles along with the application form to the Khang brand office located at 110-114, Nongbouathong Tai village, Sikhottabong district, Vientiane City.

The deadline for submissions is September 30.
Outstanding photos ,then will be selected by judges and announced the winners.
The winner of the contest will receive 3 million kip while the person securing the second place will receive 2 million kip, and the person in third place will receive 1 million kip. There will also be other congratulatory prizes.
The Khang Prize for Textile Art is a prize that promotes Lao textile art that was created and sponsored by Ms Viengkham Nanthavongdouangsy, the founder of the Khuang Textiles and Fashion Company. Viengkham weaves, teaches weaving and designs textiles and fashion.
 Ms Viengkham is also a textile researcher, and has published several books on Lao textiles. The prize is awarded to exceptional artists responsible for outstanding creations in Lao textiles. The laureates may come from different fields of skills, for example weavers, designers, photographers or film producers. The Khang Prize is given to artists through a competition.
For each competition, Khang invites professionals from the relevant field join a jury that chooses the winners.
Each Khang Prize for Textile Art competition is open to artists to submit their works and the contests are advertised on various platforms, both online and offline.
The winners are chosen through two rounds of competition, one that picks the list of finalists, and the second for choosing the winner.
The winner of the competition receives a cash prize, and his or her work will be showcased in the form of hardcopy publicity and through the electronic media.
The Khang Prize for Textile Art is funded by Khang Textiles and Fashion. The objective of the founder of Khang is to encourage artists related to the Lao textile industry and to contribute to the preservation and development of textiles.
