DigiCon6 ASIA Short Movie Contest winners share experiences

The winner of DigiCon6 ASIA Short Movie Contest Ms Thidavan Oudomvilay and runners-up Miss Siliyoupha Keosavang and Mr Anouphong Khounphithack recently shared their experiences about participating in the contest.
They spoke to Vientiane Times about their preparation to join the contest. Ms Thidavan Oudomvilay whose movie “Water Spirit’’ bagged first place, said that she was glad to receive this prize. “I took four months to finish making my movie on drinking water,” she recalled.

Ms Siliyoupha Keosavang’s movie “Sound Wave’’ won the second spot. She said this was the first time she had participated in a contest. I am proud of my work. It took me three months to create and edit the work. When I had a technical issue I consulted my teacher.”
Mr Anouphong Khounphithack’s movie “The story of miraculous Namtayak’’ won third place in the contest. He said it took him three months to draw, create, and edit his video. “My team comprised of two people. During the making of this video, I faced difficulties such as creating sound effects as I did not have enough knowledge about it. When I had a problem, I discussed it with my team.”
He added that his message to people who are interested in working on animation projects is – “please believe in your ideas and work hard”.
DigiCon6 ASIA Short Movie Contest, Laos, the Japan Foundation, Laos, together with the Cinema Department of the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, jointly held an event to announce the results of “DigiCon6 ASIA Short Movie Contest in Laos 2022”.
The Director-General of the Cinema Department, Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism Mr Khamphao Vannavong, and the Director of Japan Foundation in Laos, Mr Kusakabe Yosuke, attended the event.
This was the third edition of the contest which kickstarted in 2020. The purpose of this event is to select three outstanding works to compete in the next round in Japan. The winner will visit Japan for the contest.
Ten films that received the maximum votes from the committee were screened for the guests.
Mr Anixay Keola, the founder of Laos New Wave Cinema, representing the committee of judges, said, “I am impressed and proud to see the development of Lao youth. The works submitted this year are very similar in terms of quality and content, so it was difficult to judge. Another important thing is to leave it to the younger generation to pass on the knowledge and skills they have to the next generation so that the Lao film industry can move forward steadily and become stronger.”
Mr Khamphao Vannavong, the Director-General of the Cinema Department of the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism said, “I feel proud that the film industry of the country has the ability to produce films - both in terms of content and techniques in creating animations - in which the movement, the use of various sounds and action is comparable to international standards. Therefore, I hope that everyone will continue to strengthen and develop their skills in order to continue to build and develop the nation’s film work in the future.”
Mr Kusakabe Yosuke, the director of the Japan Foundation in Laos said, “We are pleased to provide Laos’ talented young content-creators possibilities to come on to the world stage. This event was held in cooperation with the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, and TBS Holdings of Japan which is the organiser of “DigiCon6 ASIA Contest “.
“I watched all 28 entries and feel that a bright future is in store for all the contestants,” Mr Yosuke added.
