Sivilay Aimsodala named winner of Chinese Bridge Competition

Ms Sivilay Aimsodala, a student of the Confucius Institute, was declared the winner of the Chinese Bridge Competition during the final round of the contest held at the National University of Laos last week.
She will now represent the country at the World Chinese Bridge Competition to be held in Beijing in August.
The 21st Chinese Bridge Competition, with the theme “One World One Family”, was organised to select a Lao student to represent the country at the world competition.
Mr Si Yathortou, a student of year 3 in the Faculty of Letters at the National University of Laos, won the second place.
The Chinese Bridge Competition is organised to encourage Lao students to learn the Mandarin language and have greater understanding of Chinese culture. It is also a platform for showcasing the students’ knowledge of Mandarin and Chinese culture through speaking, singing and cultural performances.
Fifteen students were part of the final round of the competition this year, including students from the Faculty of Letters of the National University of Laos, the Confucius Institute at the National University of Laos, the Chinese Language Division, the Confucius Institute at the Souphanouvong University, the Shoujow Laos University, and the Hanlan Business Administration College of Sayaboury province.
The competition had three main categories - speaking introduction, answer the question general knowledge and performances.
The Vice Dean of the National University of Laos, Associate Professor Phosy Thipdavanh said the competition was part of efforts to boost cooperation for human resources development in Laos. It is also the “One Trail One Road” strategy of China in the field of education.
A representative of the Chinese Embassy, Mr Qin Chen, attended the competition and applauded the Faculty of Letters of the National University of Laos for organising the event this year. He thanked the ICBC Bank for its support.
He urged Ms Sivilay to pay more attention to practicing for the World Chinese Bridge Competition so that she could win the contest.
