Sunshine School Laos celebrates International Day of Yoga
The Sunshine School Laos (Souliya School) organised an early celebration last week of the International Yoga Day, which is observed on June 21.
Students from Primary 1 to Middle School 4 classes took part in the celebration, which was held in the school’s playground.
All the students and teachers joined a mass yoga workout. It included a rhythmic yoga sequence and a Kaoshikii yogic dance.
Kaoshikii is a special yoga dance that, if practiced daily, is believed to prevent 22 illnesses in the human body and keep the body young even up to the age of 80.
The new school director gave a simple explanation of the significance of the day and the benefits of doing yoga. On June 16, students from the kindergarten gathered to perform yoga and to meditate.
This was the first time the school held such an event. The students and teachers, who prepared enthusiastically for a few weeks for this special day, enjoyed the celebration.
The Sunshine School Laos is the only vegetarian school in Vientiane. It teaches yoga and meditation to students as part of the syllabus, starting from kindergarten level. These practices help students to develop concentration and have a peaceful heart. They also help to maintain good health and flexibility.
Since it was founded 25 years ago, the Sunshine School’s aim has been to awaken each child’s thirst for knowledge while developing their whole personality. The school places strong emphasis on learning English and Chinese as languages of international communication.
“Sunshine School helped me to be brave and be able to step out of my comfort zone through activities such as singing, dancing and acting. Educational trips abroad helped us to explore and get us ready for the outside world and to be a better version of ourselves,” said AnGie Sannakhet, who graduated from the school in 2018.
