Special event to promote Lao handicrafts and food
The Lao Handicraft Association (LHA) will mark its 25th anniversary by holding an event with the theme “The art of handicrafts and food to international markets” in conjunction with the Lancang-Mekong International Food Exposition.
Ms Viengkham Nanthavongdouangsy, Vice President of the LHA and founder and designer of the Khang brand, told Vientiane Times that the exposition is being organised by the Department of Trade Promotion under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, with the support of the LHA and the Lao International Trade Exhibition and Convention Center (Lao ITECC).
The event will be held during June 10-19 June at ITECC in Vientiane. There will be more than 250 exhibitors at the event from countries of the Mekong region, including Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Thailand and Laos. The Lao exhibitors are drawn from different sectors, such as agriculture, food, coffee and furniture.
Visitors will be able to see Lao handicraft products from seven sectors – textiles, basketry, metallic art, creative art, cultural art, sericulture, natural fibres and plant dyes. The products will come from artisans in Vientiane city and provinces across the country.
As part of the celebrations marking the 25th year of the establishment of the LHA, there will be demonstrations of celebrated events of different Lao ethnic groups, such as the Phouthai and Hong new year celebrations. The highlight of the International Food Exposition will be a cooking demonstration and a cooking contest.
Ms Viengkham invited all organisations and the public to mark the day by visiting the exposition and enjoying the food of Mekong countries, as well as joining the LHA in celebrating its successes in the past 25 years.
