Lao, Thai companies launch solar power project in Champassak

A solar power project in Champassak province will get under way following the signing of contract by Laos’ Dokchampakham Group and Deseco Energy from Thailand on a partnership in the scheme.
Under the contract, the two parties will invest in the clean energy, solar power project, which will have an installed capacity of 4.196MW and be located in three districts of Champassak province.
The contract was signed in Vientiane on Monday by the President of Dokchampakham, Mr Vathsady Khoumphetsavong, and the President of Deseco Energy, Mr Suvijak Piriyathanaboon.
The signing was witnessed by representatives of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Investment Promotion Department of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Prime Minister’s Office, and invited guests.
Dokchampakham, as the project owner, has agreed to cooperate in the development of the solar power farm, which will cover a planned area of 7,251 hectares.
The two companies will partner in investment, provision of advanced technology, and marketing of the project. According to Dokchampakham, permission is currently being sought to build the solar power farm on the proposed 7,251-hectare site. In terms of project implementation, a team of experts will be assembled to study, survey and develop each phase of the project.
When the project is initiated, it will create jobs for local people as well as increase the revenue generated for the province and the government.
In line with Laos’ Labour Law, 70 percent of the personnel employed on the project will be Lao nationals and 30 percent will be foreign employees.
