LNCCI promotes business sustainability
Representatives from Vientiane and various provinces of Laos attended a seminar focused on standards and measures for certification of sustainable businesses.
The seminar was organised by Sustour Laos and co-chaired by the Director General of the Trade Promotion Department of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Mr Xaysomphet Norasingh, and the Vice President of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI), Mrs Chanthachone Vongsay.
The participants of the seminar represented firms engaged in five specific sectors - transportation, food and beverages, handicrafts and souvenirs, culture-based tourism, and waste management. They learnt about improved steps for certification.
These five sectors are engaged in tourism chains and contribute to the development of the tourism industry and the sustainability of improved services in various fields.
More than 40 participants from various provinces joined the seminar both in-person and virtually.
Laos is seeking ways to improve its tourism industry by standardising services and upgrading measures to promote the sector in a sustainable manner. This is being done to generate stable incomes and to provide the chained businesses with certifications of sustainability.
As part of these efforts, the “Lasting Laos” campaign is being implemented by the Sustour Laos Project that is funded by the European Union. The campaign is aimed at helping local businesses handle difficulties amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Lasting Laos” provides benchmarks and checklists of sustainability requirements which are based on the International Travelife certificate.
