Board leaders of the business sector, commercial banks and state enterprises listed on the Lao Securities Exchange (LSX) improved their knowledge of good management practices and leadership for the growth of business operations.

A two-day training session on board leadership was held during September 7-8 by the Lao Securities Commission Office (LSCO) and the Banking Institute in Vientiane as a part of project backed by the government of Luxembourg. The programme aimed to increase the trainees’ skills in administration and management that they can implement in their business.
The training course also boosted their ability to formulate mechanisms and plans for business growth.
This was the first time such training was organised with the main objective of exchanging information, experiences and lessons on principles and methods that the participants can use in their organisations and businesses, the Director General of LSCO, Mrs Fongchinda Sengsourivong, said.
The participants learned about the four parts of leadership guidelines. The first part focused on a professionally run company and the importance of corporate governance, and was presented by the Banking Institute’s Director General, Dr Akhom Praseuth.
The second part focused on board effectiveness and was presented by the Director of Wine Co Ltd, Mr Keovisouk Darasane, while the third part was on corporate strategy and risk management from a director’s perspective and was presented by the Dean of the Economics and Business Management Faculty at the National University of Laos, Dr Phouphet Kyophilavong.
The fourth part focused on inroads into stakeholders’ engagement in a company’s integrity reporting and disclosures and was presented by Mrs Fongchinda Sengsourivong.
Certificates were presented to the trainees by the Resident Representative of Lux-Development, Mr Geert De Bruycker.
