The Deputy Managing Director of the Burapha Agro-Forestry Company, Mrs Souphayvanh Thiengchanhxay, on Friday receives a Certificate of Environment from the Environment Department of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

Burapha receives environmental award for successful tree plantations

The Environment Department of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has awarded a Certificate of Environment to the Burapha Agro-Forestry Company in recognition of its outstanding performance in complying with the government’s environmental business operation criteria.
The certificate was presented at the Environment Department on Friday, after the company was found to have fulfilled the criteria for industrial tree planting set by the department.
In addition, the company has contributed to the development of the involved communities, created jobs, and helped to alleviate poverty in areas where trees have been planted.
The certificate was presented to the company’s Deputy Managing Director, Mrs Souphayvanh Thiengchanhxay, by the Deputy Director General of the Environment Department, Mr Soudaxay Khamphengxay.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs Souphayvanh said the company highly valued the certificate, which was testimony to the fact that the firm had been very successful in terms of its operations and had not caused any environmental damage.
The company had also complied with all government policies and laws at all times.
“Before being awarded this certificate, our company met all the criteria set by the Environment Department and was certified by officials from the department. The certificate is also a guarantee of the origins of the planted trees before the wood is processed and exported,” she said.
The Environment Department awarded the certificate following the establishment of tree plantations on 3,000 hectares of land in the districts of Meuang Feuang, Keo-oudom and Phonhong in Vientiane province.
Burapha Agro-Forestry Company also has plantations in Paklai district, Xayaboury province, Anouvong district in Xaysomboun province, and the districts of Sangthong and Xaythany in Vientiane.
The company mainly grows eucalyptus and acacia trees. The wood is processed and exported to markets in Europe and Australia.
Since the launch of the tree plantation and processing firm, Burapha Agro-Forestry Company has received several awards for its efficient and environmentally-aware operations, notably the Asean Agrow Golden Award in 2018.
The company places special emphasis on job creation in local communities, as well as environmental protection and fair business practices.
It employs numerous local staff. Many of its current middle management employees started out as seasonal workers and now have highly skilled jobs with the company after undergoing training.
