Company backs economic development initiatives for rural areas
The Burapha Agro-Forestry Co., Ltd. has provided more than 50 million kip to two village groups and four other villages in Meuang Feuang district of Vientiane province to support economic development initiatives.
The Lao and Swedish plantation and wood products manufacturing company owns more than 400 hectares for planting eucalyptus trees in the four villages – Namhay, Nalang, Huaydeua and Nonhinhae – where local residents are employed by the company.
The ceremony for handing over the funds was recently held at the Phasang Development area in Meuang Feuang district.
The ceremony was chaired by the company’s Deputy Managing Director, Mrs Souphayvanh Thiengchanhxay, in the presence of the firm’s staff.
It was also attended by the Deputy Governor of Meuang Feuang, Mr Thavisack Vongsavang, and other guests.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Thavisack said the plantation project run by the company has contributed significant benefits to a number of residents of the district, especially in terms of poverty reduction, job creation and development of infrastructure.
“A road passing through local communities and the tree planting project have been greatly beneficial for local villagers. The road makes it convenient to transport goods and also enables residents to commute to their fields and farms,” he said.
The money provided by the company will be used for the development of alleys, village clubs and other projects in these villages.
In addition, the company also provided more than 120 million kip to some villages in Hinheup, Meun and Xanakham districts.
So far, the company has already provided more than 200 million kip to the villages’ fund and village groups in four districts of the province.
